When we started Sprintlaw back in 2017, we had a vision of bringing legal services online so that small businesses could get cheaper, more efficient support as they grow.
Fast forward to 2021: the world looks a whole lot different. COVID-19 has frustrated a lot of contracts (and all of us). But as things change, our vision is only becoming more relevant.
Being an online law firm has allowed us to assist our clients through the unexpected challenges of the pandemic without any hiccups in our operations. Plus, we’ve been able to help a whole heap of new businesses who have turned online for legal services.
From winning some of the legal industry’s most prestigious awards to being among Australia’s fastest growing startups—2021 has been a huge year for us.
Here’s what we got up to this year and what you can expect from us heading into 2022.
Our 2021 Highlights
We’ve achieved a lot this year, but here are some of the things we’re most proud of:

- We’ve received 200+ 5 star Google reviews from our clients
We also saw great success at a lot of industry awards nights, which wouldn’t have been possible without so many clients trusting us to deliver their legals in a new way. Here’s a rundown of what we were recognised for:
- We were APAC’s fastest growing law firm in Deloitte’s Technology Fast 500™ List
- We were Australia’s 36th fastest-growing startup in the AFR’s Fast Starters List
- We won NewLaw Firm of the Year at the Australian Law Awards
- We were Australasian Lawyer’s 2021 Employer of Choice
- Our co-founders won Sydney’s Legal Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award
We Launched In The UK
In mid-2021, we expanded to England and Wales — identifying a strong appetite for affordable, online legal services in this market. Our launch attracted coverage from major media outlets, being announced in an exclusive feature in the AFR.
Since launching in the UK, we’ve experienced unprecedented demand for our services, assisting well over 1000 businesses in our first year. We look forward to assisting even more UK business owners in 2022.

We Brought On More Top Lawyers
If you’ve ever worked with a Sprintlaw lawyer, you’ll know they’re a pretty knowledgeable bunch (if we do say so ourselves). Well, some good news: we’ve brought on even more lawyers to assist with an increased range of legal services small businesses need.
In 2021, we expanded our expertise in areas like franchising, employment and capital raising—and will be expanding into even more new areas next year.
Our team’s expertise is evidenced by us being named finalists in the Australian Law Awards Commercial Team of the Year—ranking us alongside some of Australia’s most established BigLaw firms. For a small team like ours to be listed in this company is pretty remarkable; even more so when considering our clients receive this top-level expertise at up to 70% cheaper and 5 times faster than traditional firms.
We Introduced More Tailored Offerings For More Businesses
We experienced a record number of enquiries in 2021 and, as a result, we looked at how we could expand our offerings to deliver affordable legal services to as broad a range of businesses as possible.
Since we launched in 2017, we’ve revolutionised the legal market through our productisation of legal services. Working with us is kind of like shopping at an online store: you’ll know from the very start exactly what you’re getting and how much you’ll pay. We’re constantly growing this base of fixed-fee packages so that more businesses can use our services. In 2021, we launched over 150 new packages for legal services we weren’t previously offering.
We’ve also continued to refine our subscription offering, Sprintlaw Membership. This model has proven particularly popular within our client base—we saw a 280% increase in subscribers as compared to last year. It’s exciting to see more businesses take advantage of this program, which provides users with on-demand legal calls, free document updates and more.
This year also saw us beta test V2 of our enterprise solution, Sprintlaw Counsel. This pilot has gone particularly well, and we’ve been able to use our dedicated tech platform to help some of our fastest-growing clients, like Zoomo, through major raises. We’ll be scaling this solution in 2022 to offer fast, affordable legal help to more enterprise clients.
We Continued To Invest In Our Tech
Good tech lies at the heart of what we do. With our tech eliminating the repetitive grunt work from our lawyers’ workloads, what our clients pay for is the human and creative aspects of engaging a lawyer.
This year, we continued to invest in tech automations to increase our efficiencies and drive down costs of legal services.
One of the core areas we’re continually building out is our Sprintyard Learning Management System. It takes the learnings our lawyers have gained from the legal documents they’ve prepared and feeds them into a streamlined database that lawyers can refer to whenever they draft a future document.
Basically, our Sprintyard database saves us from reinventing the wheel every time we start a new document (which many lawyers do, and they charge handsomely for it!). It ensures we thoroughly analyse the data from the thousands of legal projects we’ve completed to make our fixed-fee offerings even more tailored to future clients’ needs.
